Minister of Interior Ambrose Dery has affirmed that a deceased man identified as Salahudeen Tafilu who lost his life in Asawase on Monday, July 23, 2023 was not killed by police.

The minister made these affirmations at a breifing in Parliament where he was called to brief the house on the many postulations that followed the death of the man.

The Asokore Mampong Police Station in the Asawase constituency suffered attacks from some youth within the precinct who blamed the police for the death of their colleague.

Meanwhile, The Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin directed the interior Minister who presented the report to the House earlier today, August 1, 2023 to probe into the matter and present report to plenary.

Mr. Dery stated that, the postmortem conducted on 24th July 2023 at the Komfo Anokye hospital by Dr.Ernest Boakye indicates that, the deceased suffered some internal injuries. He emphatically stated that, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander has assured Ghanaians and most importantly the family of a thorough investigation.

Member of Parliament for the area Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, was rather confused after analyzing the police account and the post mortem account submitting that the reports were contradicting. He noted that Ghanaians are losing trust in the police on account of a credibility gap which has been created over the years. He later commended Dery for his concern and dedication regarding the matter.
