Ghanaian sprinter, Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku, known as one of Africa’s rising athletics stars in the 100m race, has been forced to withdraw from the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest due to a groin injury.

The championship, which marks the nineteenth edition of the prestigious event, is scheduled to take place from 19 to 27 August 2023 at the National Athletics Centre in Hungary’s capital.

Azamati’s journey to the World Championships faced a setback when he sustained an injury during his training sessions ahead of the competition.

The young athlete has been making remarkable strides in his career, most notably in the 2021 outdoor season, where he posted a new personal best of 9.97 seconds, securing his spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Ghanaian sprinter’s path to success has been filled with groundbreaking achievements, as he notably broke a 22-year national record previously held by Leo Myles Mills.

His record-breaking performance, clocking the same impressive time of 9.97 seconds, earned him a ticket to the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021.

With his withdrawal from the 2023 World Championships, Ghanaians will undoubtedly be disappointed to miss witnessing his incredible talent on the international stage. However, it remains to be seen how the athlete will recover and come back stronger in future competitions.

Budapest’s preparedness to hosting the World Championships, is a testament to the city’s dedication to athletics and sporting events.

Although the city previously expressed interest in hosting the 2007 World Championships but withdrew, it now looks forward to showcasing its passion for the sport in the upcoming edition.
