Andrews Agbo Kitcher, a co-opted Member of the Ghana Athletics Association(GAA),
and also the president of the Past Athletes Association of Ghana (PAAG), has revealed his comprehensive plan for the future of athletics in the country.

Kitcher is set to contest for the esteemed position of 1st Vice Chairman, a role that holds significant influence within the association’s hierarchy.

The GAA’s electoral congress is slated to take place on Thursday, August 10, in the vibrant city of Techiman located in the Bono region.

This congress will serve as a pivotal moment in shaping the destiny of athletics in Ghana, as it will witness the election of leaders who will guide the sport for the next four years.

Among the six key positions up for contention are President, First Vice President, Second Vice President (Female), Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, and Deputy Organizing Secretary.

Speaking exclusively on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports, Kitcher disclosed his vision for the association if he is successfully elected to the 1st Vice Chairman role. “As part of plans I’d implement if elected, I’d help the association financially”.

He highlighted the current struggle with government support for athletics, stressing that external sources of funding have become essential.

“The government doesn’t support enough when it comes to our discipline; you would rather have to go to other corporate bodies for funds”.

Kitcher further expressed his dedication to fostering a robust environment for Ghanaian athletes by organizing more competitions locally. “I also want to help the Association in the organization of more competitions in order to support the athletes locally”.

In a bid to provide sustained financial backing for athletes, Kitcher unveiled his innovative proposal to establish an “Athletics Sponsorship Fund.” This fund would serve as a resource to uplift and empower athletes, ensuring their needs are met as they strive for excellence in international competitions.

Kitcher’s passion for the sport and his comprehensive vision extends to honoring the legacy of veteran athletes. “Old and veterans athletes would also be brought into the picture to also help contribute,” he asserted.
He envisions the creation of an “Athletics Hall of Fame” specifically designed to immortalize the contributions of these distinguished athletes who have contributed to the rich history of Ghanaian athletics.

As Andrews Agbo Kitcher vies for the esteemed position of 1st Vice Chairman, he will have to contest the incumbent, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey come August 10.
