In a meeting with the Greater Accra Coordinating Council (GARCC), the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, pressed for a ban on the operation of tricycles on the city’s main roadways.

He stated that as a result of this predicament, there has been extreme traffic snarling, disorderly parking, and infractions of traffic laws. Therefore, it is necessary to establish restrictions on the movement of these vehicles to foster a business-friendly atmosphere and guarantee the comfort of tourists.

The GARCC decided to put policies in place to regulate how these vehicles can move in particular locations. The CBD of a number of municipalities and districts, including Accra Metropolitan, Krowor, Korle Klottey, Tema Metropolitan, La Dade Kotopon, La Nkwantanang Madina, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso West, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso North, Ledzokuku, Okaikwei North, and Adentan Municipal, will be subject to the new restrictions.

The GARCC also strengthened the ban on aboboyaa on the highway and main streets in the Greater Accra region.

A further restriction put forth by the council forbade the usage of party-related items during local events. This includes limitations on raising flags and donning festive clothing when attending such activities.

The Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, along with their Presiding Members have also been instructed to raise public awareness of these resolutions and establish by-laws in their respective jurisdictions to enforce the new regulations.
