Abdel-Fatau Musah, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, has vehemently maintained the regional organization’s position on military action in Niger.

In a response to calls advocating the reversal of the military action decision, Amb. Musah characterized these appeals as lacking justification.

In his remarks at the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff’s Extraordinary Meeting in Accra, Amb. Musah emphasized the seriousness of the situation in Niger.

According to reports, the purpose of the meeting is to strategically lay out an intervention strategy for Niger, subject to ECOWAS leaders’ consent.

Amb. Musah reaffirmed that the standby force is ready to take immediate action if existing diplomatic negotiations are unsuccessful. The regional organization’s dedication to preserving peace and stability in Niger, he continued, remains unshakable.

Amb. Musah stressed the critical importance of democratic governance and stated that all methods will be used to help Niger get back on the correct track toward democracy.

“Let no one be in doubt that if everything fails, the valiant forces of West Africa, both the Military and Civilian components are ready to answer the call of duty. Your valiance has been demonstrated time and time again,” Amb. Musah said.

He added that “by all means available constitutional order will be restored in the country.”

He claims that ECOWAS’ involvement demonstrates a commitment to sustaining democratic standards and preserving the political environment in the area.

Abdul-Fatau Musah also outlined the powerful tools ECOWAS has at its disposal to deal with the circumstance.

He revealed that the regional organization has plenty of resources and capacity to deal with and counter the disruption caused by the Niger junta and strive towards the restoration of democratic government in the nation.
