The Priscilla Congregation in the Dansoman District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is gearing up to host the much-anticipated biennial Kente Day celebrations.

This year’s event, themed “Our Culture and Our Heritage,” promises to be a vibrant showcase of Ghana’s rich cultural tapestry. Congregants and attendees will come together for a special service on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the church’s premises located at Gbegbeyise.

The Kente Day celebration has become a cherished tradition for Priscilla Congregation and the larger community, offering a platform to celebrate the nation’s unique cultural heritage.

The highlight of the event will be a special church service, where congregants will adorn themselves in distinctive Ghanaian attire, particularly the iconic Kente cloth. The service will also feature traditional Ghanaian hymns and prayers, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation and unity.

Catchiest in Charge, George Odame, expressed his excitement, saying, “Our culture is a source of pride and identity. This event reminds us of the importance of preserving our traditions for future generations. Kente Day is a time when we proudly display the beauty of our culture through the colorful and intricate Kente cloth but not limited to it – any indigenous attire is highly welcome. It’s a moment to unite as a community and appreciate the rich tapestry of Ghana’s traditions.”

In addition to the spiritual aspect, “Our Culture and Our Heritage” will feature a delectable feast comprising a variety of local dishes and natural drinks. The menu will include staples such as Jollof Rice, Fufu with Light Soup, Banku with Tilapia, and some refreshing ‘Sobolo’ and ‘Lamugin’ drinks.

Mrs. Judith Hinne Kloe, Committee Chairperson for the event, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Food is an integral part of our culture, and through this feast, we aim to tantalize taste buds and showcase the diversity of Ghanaian cuisine. It’s an opportunity to savor our heritage on a plate.”

The Priscilla Congregation extends a warm invitation to all members of the community and beyond to join them in celebrating “Our Culture and Our Heritage” at the 2023 Kente Day event. This vibrant celebration promises to be a day of cultural pride, unity, and delicious flavors, as attendees come together to honor Ghana’s rich and colorful heritage.
