Nana Fosu Gyeabour, the bankroller of Ampem Darkoa Ladies, opened up about the trials and triumphs of managing women’s football in Ghana, shedding light on the club’s historic journey to the African Women’s Champions League.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies made history by becoming only the second club from Ghana to qualify for the prestigious African Women’s Champions League.

Their remarkable journey to continental glory began with a triumphant run in the WAFU Zone B qualifiers, culminating in a thrilling final showdown against Delta Queens, where they secured a 1-0 victory.

During an interview on Happy FM, Nana Fosu Gyeabour acknowledged the challenges associated with managing a women’s football team, stating, “Managing women’s football isn’t easy. Looking at the cost incurred in taking care of the girls and all, it hasn’t been easy.” This candid admission highlights the financial and logistical hurdles that women’s football clubs often face, emphasizing the dedication required to support female athletes.

However, Gyeabour also expressed gratitude towards the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for their efforts to promote and support women’s football.

He stated, “The current GFA has underlined certain initiatives which have benefited women’s football a lot and has brought visibility to the women’s league.”

Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ qualification for the African Women’s Champions League not only serves as a testament to their skill and determination but also as a milestone for women’s football in Ghana.
