Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and a prominent contender for the Association’s presidency,George Afriyie, has released a statement saying,

“Although I respect the decision of the EC, I’m very much dissatisfied with their decision and have therefore referred the matter to my legal team to take the necessary steps to overturn the ruling,” Afriyie declared. “I have always believed in operating within legal remits, laid down procedures, and processes, and would therefore urge my supporters and followers and football lovers to remain calm.”

Afriyie, who was regarded as a strong candidate in the upcoming GFA elections, is now facing a race against time with a limited window of just three days to appeal the committee’s decision.

The announcement of Afriyie’s disqualification sent shockwaves through the football community and has raised questions about the integrity and fairness of the election process.

The disqualification of George Afriyie came after the completion of the first phase of the vetting process, which involved scrutiny of the candidacies of both Afriyie and the incumbent FA boss, Kurt E.S Okraku.

The Vetting Committee cited specific reasons for Afriyie’s disqualification, including a breach of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” as well as his “failure to provide the required number of Ghana Football Association members to support your candidature.”

The decision to disqualify Afriyie has ignited a flurry of debates and discussions within the football community, with supporters and stakeholders closely following developments.

In a related development, the Elections Committee has taken the unprecedented step of suspending all election processes in response to a court injunction obtained by King Faisal, a club relegated from the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League

This latest twist in the election saga has added further complexity to an already tense situation, leaving the fate of the GFA elections hanging in the balance. As the clock ticks down on George Afriyie’s three-day window to appeal his disqualification,Happy Sports is keenly following this story and will provide followers with updates.
