Story By: Ahashie Judeliver Eli

Veteran Ghanaian agent, Nana Kwarteng has opened up about the challenges he faces in marketing Ghanaian players abroad, shedding light on the plight of talents like Abednego Tetteh.

The footballer, who currently plies his trade with Bibiani Gold Stars, has been a standout performer in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), yet finds himself excluded from the national team, the Black Stars.

Kwarteng in an interview on Happy FM did not mince words when he stated, “It is difficult to market Ghanaian players abroad. If the top scorer in the Ghana Premier League is not even called up to the senior national team – the Black Stars – it sends a discouraging message to both players and agents.”

He continued to express his frustration, saying, “Abednego Tetteh’s situation with the Black Stars is very sad, and from the perspective of marketing, how do clubs earn money from these players when they don’t get international exposure?”

Abednego Tetteh himself voiced his concerns about the lack of recognition and appreciation for local talents in the Ghana Premier League. In his interview with Happy FM, he lamented, “Talents are not appreciated in the Ghana League, and it is not the right thing to be done.” Despite his outstanding performances, Tetteh felt that recognition in the local league was a daunting task.

He made it clear that his decision to seek opportunities elsewhere wasn’t solely due to his exclusion from the Black Stars.

Agent Nana Kwarteng’s words highlights the need for greater recognition and opportunities for talented players in the Ghana Premier League. It is a call to action for the football authorities to pay attention to the domestic talent pool and ensure that deserving players receive the international exposure they deserve.
