The Ghana Police Service has taken legal action by filing an application in court to halt a planned demonstration set to take place near the Jubilee House from Thursday, September 21st, to Saturday, September 23rd, 2023.

The demonstration is being organized by a group known as Democracy Hub, which has accused the government of mismanaging the economy and called for improved relief packages for struggling Ghanaians.

In a recent statement, the police made it clear that they will await the court’s decision before taking any further action regarding the planned protest. The authorities have also issued a strong message to the public, urging them to disregard any calls from individuals or groups encouraging participation in the demonstration near the Jubilee House.

Furthermore, the police have called upon the organizers of the protest to respect due process in the interest of public order and safety.

This planned demonstration coincides with the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, a national observance throughout the country. The organizers of the protest, Democracy Hub, held a press conference on Tuesday, September 19th, to inform their members of the measures in place to ensure a successful protest without any disruptions.

Among the logistical arrangements revealed by the organizers are provisions for demonstrators who wish to stay overnight at the Jubilee House during the three-day period. These arrangements include mattresses, tents, and mosquito nets, demonstrating their commitment to a peaceful and well-organized event.
