A violent clash between landguards and wood sellers in the Ofankor Moose area along the Accra-Nsawam road has left one person dead and several others injured. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, paralyzed public roads and resulted in the burning of tires, creating chaos in the community.

Initial investigations by the police indicate that the root cause of the conflict was a long-standing land dispute between landguards and wood sellers. According to reports, tension had been building for some time due to the landowner’s decision to evict the wood sellers, despite having received rent payments from them for the past three years.

The situation escalated dramatically when a group of landguards, believed to have been sent by the landowner, descended on the premises, opening fire and looting shops. During the confrontation, one wood seller suffered gunshot wounds, and several others sustained various injuries. In retaliation, the wood sellers took action to defend themselves, further escalating the violence.

The timely arrival of the police prevented the situation from spiraling out of control and helped restore peace to the area. Security measures in Ofankor have been reinforced, and the affected road has been reopened to normal traffic.

In a brief statement, the police confirmed that they are actively investigating the incident to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge as tensions simmer over the unresolved land dispute.
