NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo has added his voice to the ongoing debate on the cost of dialysis recently announced by the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show with Sefah Danquah, he highlighted the frightful impact the increasing cost of dialysis has on patients.

He urged the government to take immediate action regarding the increasing cost of treatment to help save the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

He suggested that the government take action by either incorporating dialysis into NHIS coverage or providing subsidies to make it more accessible.

He explained, “The government should subsidize 40-50% of each dialysis session to prevent the unfortunate deaths of patients who cannot afford it.”

John Dumelo further cautioned Ghanaians to live healthy lifestyles to prevent harm to their kidneys.

“Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limiting salt intake, and reducing alcohol consumption are all crucial steps in maintaining kidney health.”

“Every organ in our body, including the kidneys, plays a vital role, and it’s essential to prioritize their well-being,” he added.

He stressed that by taking good care of ourselves and making positive lifestyle changes, we can prevent many health issues, including kidney problems.
