The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially disclosed the prize fund for the inaugural African Football League (AFL).

In this groundbreaking tournament, Africa’s top-ranked and most accomplished football clubs will vie for supremacy.

Scheduled to commence on October 20, 2023, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the AFL will witness the clash of giants, featuring Simba SC from Tanzania and Al Ahly SC from Egypt.

Here’s a breakdown of the AFL’s enticing prize money:

  • The Winner: $4,000,000
  • The Runner-up: $3,000,000
  • Semi-finalists (each): $1,700,000
  • Quarter-finalists (each): $1,000,000

This substantial prize pool is set to motivate fierce competition, with the victorious club needing only six matches to claim the coveted $4,000,000 reward.

Among the prominent and top-ranking football clubs participating in the inaugural AFL are Enyimba FC (Nigeria), Wydad AC (Morocco), Mamelodi Sundowns FC (South Africa), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), and Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (Angola).

Established as a joint effort between CAF and FIFA, the AFL’s primary objective is to elevate the quality of African club football to global standards and ensure the commercial viability of African football clubs.

Moreover, the AFL aims to foster the development and nurture the burgeoning talent in youth football across the African continent.

CAF envisions that all 54 CAF Member Associations, including countries without representation in the AFL, will reap financial benefits from the league’s commercial success and viability.
