Managing Editor for the Hawk Newspaper, Charles McCarthy has argued that Ghana’s system is inferior to a democratic state adding that the country is practising selective democracy.

He however stressed that in an ideal democratic country, government is for the people rather than a selected few or elites.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show with Sefa Danquah the editor said that Ghana’s democracy is only favouring some sections or classes of people in the country rather than the ordinary Ghanaian.

He said, “Our leaders after satisfying their stomachs encourage us to embrace democracy.

He added that Ghanaian leaders are not willing to correct that aspect of democracy because they are benefiting from it. ‘’Our leaders do not want to right the wrong rather they are interested in changing their opinions and speaking for the government. Nothing can be corrected in this country. The only thing you have to do is to join them if you cannot change them after all, it is a national cake therefore getting a share of it is not a crime.”

Mr McCarthy further stated that Ghana would effectively progress as a country if “the leaders are determined to defend the country by playing a fair game in the interest of Ghanaians than their selfish gains.”
