The National Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conveyed its sincere grief and condolences on the demise of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, the admired former First Lady of Ghana, in a heartfelt statement released today, October 2.

Mrs. Theresa Kufuor contributed significantly to defining the memory of a transformative era as the wife of President John Agyekum Kufuor, the first NPP President of Ghana’s fourth Republic.

In the statement signed by Kate Gyamfua, the National Women Organiser, the party reiterated the compassion and transformative achievements of Mrs. Kufuor during her time in high office as Ghana’s First Lady.

“During her tenure as First Lady, Mrs. Kufuor championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment in Ghana. Her dedication resonated with the core values of the NPP, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire the party in its quest for progress and prosperity for all Ghanaians,” the statement read.

“In this time of mourning, the NPP’s National Women’s Wing stands united in grief with the Kufuour family, friends, and the entire nation. It is our hope that the soul of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor finds eternal peace, and her significant contributions to the nation will forever be etched in our collective memory.

News of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor’s death came out in late hours of Sunday, October 1, 2023 after she reportedly died in the house at the Peduase area on the Aburi mountain.

Theresa Kufuor (née Mensah; born 25 October 1935) was the wife of John Kufuor, the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, and former First Lady of Ghana.

She was a retired nurse and midwife.

The passing of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor has left a void in the hearts of Ghanaians, and her legacy of dedication and service will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come.
