US-based Ghanaian sports journalist Seidu Adamu has revealed that he was physically assaulted before the friendly match between Ghana and Mexico on Saturday. This information has been verified by Happy Sports reporters Ohene Bampoe Brenya and Joe Debrah.

In his detailed statement, Adamu substantiated the numerous reports of the assault that took place at the Black Stars’ hotel in Charlotte. He explicitly identified his attacker as Aziz, a member of the Black Stars’ security team.

Adamu described the incident as entirely unexpected, leaving him uncertain about whether it was a premeditated action by high-ranking officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) or a reckless act by his assailant. Despite the assault, Adamu did not suffer severe injuries, but he did mention discomfort in his neck and arm, along with visible bruising around his ears.

This distressing incident has led Adamu to reconsider attending the upcoming match between the Black Stars and the US Men’s national team in Tennessee. His primary concern is his personal safety, as he emphasized that he had not provoked anyone or engaged in any actions that would justify such a violent response.

Adamu stated, “Since the leadership of the Ghana FA cannot guarantee my safety in and around the national team, I have made the difficult decision to return to my base and forgo the journey to Tennessee, where the Black Stars are scheduled to play the US Men’s national team.”

“I want to emphasize that I did not provoke anyone, nor did I say or do anything that would justify such a barbaric act against me.”

He also noted, “I have already reported the incident to the Barclay Down Police Department in Charlotte, North Carolina, and will proceed to make similar reports in Maryland as advised.”

The assault has garnered widespread condemnation, and as of now, there has been no official response from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
