Born on September 12, 1995, in Nkawkaw, Ghana, Raphael Dwamena, a prolific striker, left an indelible mark on the football world. His career, spanning various clubs and countries, showcased both triumphs and health challenges.

Health Complications and Career Highlights:

In 2017, a diagnosis revealed a heart condition, leading to the implantation of a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in January 2020 while playing for Levante UD. The ICD became a source of concern in October 2020, causing Vejle Boldklub to withdraw him from team activities. A year later, Dwamena collapsed during an Austrian Cup match but was quickly stabilized after the ICD administered a shock.

Dwamena’s career began with a stellar performance at FC Zurich in the 2016–17 season, where he scored 12 goals in 18 matches, propelling the team to triumph in the Swiss Challenge League. His debut for the Ghana national team in June 2017 marked a 5–0 victory over Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he scored twice.

Despite a promising future, a cardiac issue thwarted his move to Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2017. He returned to FC Zurich for the 2017–18 season, scoring 13 goals in 32 appearances. A subsequent move to Levante in August 2018 was marred by injuries, limiting him to 17 matches over two seasons.

In September 2020, Dwamena embarked on a loan spell with Denmark’s Vejle Boldklub, playing a crucial role in their fight against relegation during the 2020–21 season. His journey continued with a move to Albania’s KF Egnatia in January 2023, where he contributed four goals in 10 matches during the 2022–23 season.

Personal Life: Wife, Kids, and Heartfelt Loss

Mavis Acheampong, a nurse from Ghana, was reportedly Dwamena’s wife. Rumors suggested a small ceremony in Accra in December 2019. The couple welcomed a son, Raphael Dwamena Junior, in March 2020.

Tragic Passing and Sporting Mourning:

On November 11, 2023, tragedy struck during a match between Egnatia and Partizani in the Albanian Superliga. Dwamena, 28, suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed in the 23rd minute of the first half. Despite efforts, he passed away en route to Kavajë Hospital. The heartbreaking incident led to the suspension of football and sports events in Albania, marking the end of a life that touched many through its highs and lows on and off the football field.*
