Akatsi South Member of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has leveled serious accusations against the Finance Minister, as he predicts that he will once again “quote the bible, hide behind the bible and create loathe and share” during today’s 2024 budget reading.

Mr. Ahiafor pointed to the National Cathedral project as a significant example, where the Finance Minister allegedly quoted the bible to justify the initiative but, according to Ahiafor, the outcome has been the creation, loathing, and sharing of resources intended for the nation.

Expressing skepticism about the Finance Minister’s upcoming budget presentation, Ahiafor stated, “I don’t expect anything different.” He anticipates a repetition of the government’s strategy to “come and be touting micro-economic gains and making sweet promises.”

According to Ahiafor, these promises are often “unachievable” and presented with “sugar-quoted words” designed to mislead the public.

The Akatsi South MP further raised concerns about the accuracy of the government’s economic data, specifically mentioning the current inflation rate, which he claimed is at 54.1%.

He expressed doubt that the Finance Minister would present truthful figures during the budget reading, suggesting that the government might manipulate data to suit their interests.

Later this morning, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will be delivering the 2024 budget and economic plan. This will be the last budget reading under the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
