The 2024 Budget statement is still pending for approval – Speaker Bagbin

In a parliamentary twist, the approval of the budget statement and Economic Policy of the Government for the year 2024 is currently in limbo.

Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin has revealed that the crucial financial document is yet to receive approval from the House.

The drama unfolded when the majority walked out of the chamber, leaving only 3 members from their side to handle government business. The minority leader seized the opportunity to assert that, based on the vote and proceedings, the budget statement was not approved.

He called on the majority leader and the finance minister to correct any misinformation.

However, Leader of Government business Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu countered the claims, stating that the real issue at hand is the deputy Minority Leader’s call for a head count, not the approval status of the budget statement.

In an attempt to bring clarity, the Speaker directed the business committee to schedule the budget statement and economic policy for the year 2024 for next week, emphasizing that it is pending approval, not hanging.

The political tussle over budget approval continues, keeping Ghanaians on edge as they await the final decision.
