Lawyer Yaw Buaben Asamoah, the former Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes that Ghana is better off without the two biggest political parties, NPP and NDC.

In an exclusive interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s “Fact Sheet” with Reynolds Agyeman, Buaben Asamoah addressed the prevalent economic challenges facing the nation but went on to express a profound concern about the impact of the two major political parties on the citizens.

“We’ve all admitted to the worsening economic conditions of the country, but we also accepted democracy and sovereignty of governance and we’ve been doing this through the two big political parties in the country, particularly the NPP and the NDC,” he stated.

He acknowledged the presence of a few other groups such as the CPP but emphasized the dominant role of the two major parties.

Yaw Buaben Asamoah then delved into the consequences of political parties deviating from values such as love, unity, integrity, and accountability.

He asserted, “If you’re a political party and you fail to run on the lines of love, unity, integrity, and accountability, the members of the group will be in disarray, disburse, and possibly collapse because there’s no hope for them that there’s a future with the party.”

According to Asamoah, this lack of hope makes it challenging for parties to attract new followers, as people are unwilling to invest their goodwill in a party without a promising future.

The former Director of Communications for the NPP then expressed a sobering perspective on the two major political parties in Ghana.

“Between the two biggest political parties, Ghanaians believe and trust that they are the hope, but they, in return, give them the shock of their life, disappoint them, and leave them in despair while the cycle continues,” he warned.

His comments shed light on the disillusionment experienced by citizens who place their faith in these political entities, only to be met with disappointment and a sense of hopelessness.

Yaw Buaben Asamoah was recently expelled from the NPP party for supporting an independent presidential candidate, Alan Kyerematen.

Reacting to his expulsion in a statement, Buaben Asamoa accepted the party’s decision and expressed his commitment to Ghana’s success through their support for Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the newly established “Movement For Change”

The NPP expelled Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Hopeson Adorye for endorsing a presidential candidate other than the one elected by the party.

The decision was announced by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who emphasized the party’s focus on unity and winning the 2024 general elections.
