NPP Primaries: Incumbent MP Tina Mensah alleged undue influence in candidate imposition

Tensions are escalating within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Weija Gbawe constituency as incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Tina Naa Ayele Mensah accuses some party executives of imposing an unknown candidate on constituents.

Tina Mensah claims that certain NPP party executives, allegedly influenced by financial considerations, are pushing for the candidacy of an individual who does not reside in Weija Gbawe.

This move, she argues, undermines the democratic process and the will of the constituents who should have the final say in selecting their representative.

In response to these allegations, Tina Mensah is gearing up for a battle within the party. She plans to petition the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NPP to thoroughly investigate the matter and, if necessary, disqualify the contested candidate.

Undeterred, she expresses confidence that her track record of accomplishments and unwavering dedication to the constituents will prevail over any alleged manipulations.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Weija Gbawe, Partick Kumor, has acknowledged the internal conflicts within the party, sounding a warning about the potential repercussions.

Mr. Kumor emphasizes that such disputes not only threaten party unity but also embolden the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), putting the NPP’s hold on the constituency at risk in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Mr. Kumor is pushing delegates to put party unity first in an effort to garner support and lessen the blowback. He claims that Tina Mensah is the best qualified candidate to lead the NPP to victory because of her expertise, solid record, and ability to end the “eight-year cycle” of alternating party rule.
