Coach Christopher Nimley bared his soul as he reflected on Ghana’s agonizing departure from the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Black Stars’s final Group B game against Mozambique ended in a heartbreaking 2-2 draw, leaving them with just two points and a third-place finish in the group B standings.

Nimley, visibly frustrated, in an interview on Happy Sports with Nana Fosu Appiah, shared his thoughts on the devastating outcome, stating, “It’s too embarrassing. We have teams like Mauritania, Namibia even having three points. For a four time African champion , it is simply unacceptable.”

Ghana led by two goals in the 90th minute, only to misss out on automatic qualification to the knockout stage, with Cape Verde topping the group with 7 points and Egypt securing the second spot with 3 points. Mozambique, despite finishing last, managed to deny Ghana a crucial victory.

In a surprising turn of events, coach Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties, and the entire technical team of the Black Stars has been dissolved. The Ghana Football Association aims to initiate a thorough review of the team’s performance and strategy in the wake of this disappointing campaign.

Nimley concluded with a promise to Ghanaian fans, “We are all disappointed and pained. The team will have to regroup, learn from this experience, and come back stronger. We need to put in the proper structures and trust in the next 3-5years, we would rip the benefit”.
