Story By: Joel Eshun

Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, has highlighted the role of government in reviving Ghana football that is currently on its knees.

The abysmal performance of the Black Stars in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and other international tournaments in the last 6 years have led to serious questions about the state of Ghana football.

With many pointing hands at the doorsteps of the Ghana Football Association over allegedly interfering in the works of the various national team coaches, Wilson Arthur who is also the owner of Division One League Club, Skypower SC has hinted on the government’s responsivity in the reviving Ghana football.

According to Wilson Arthur, football is an industry on its own and with the right investment will be an avenue of employment for people who cannot excel in the formal educational system.

“The first stakeholder needed is the government. Football is a complete industry like education or agriculture and with the right investments from government will create a huge market of opportunities for talented youths who cannot excel in the educational system.”

“Football can be used to create huge employment for the youth and that is one of the many reasons why we need the sports fund to be created. The sports fund will provide the avenue for good investment in sports and we will see the impact on our game,” Wilson Arthur said on Happy FM in an interview with Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
