Wilson Arthur, the chairman of the MTN FA Cup competition, has attributed Ghana’s recurring failures in international tournament to lack of proper investment in the game.

According to the Skypower FC owner, Ghana prides itself as a four-time AFCON champion and that is because of the good investment initiated by the Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Ignatius Kutu Acheampong’s government.

He said that successive governments after the aforementioned didn’t continue investing in the key areas of sports like their predecessors did.

“Every time we say we have won four AFCONs and we brag about it forgetting that we were able to achieve that because of the investment made by the Nkrumah and Acheampong governments. We need to do such investments for clubs to groom players for the national teams.”

“Successive governments didn’t continue with such investments and they forced the clubs to register as independent businesses and that was the beginning of our problems. Because the clubs desperately need money to stay in business, they are now quick to sell players who are still in their developing stage and that is affecting us across board,” Wilson Arthur said on Happy FM in an interview with Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
