The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has sent a diplomatic team to Senegal to address the worsening political situation in the wake of the postponed presidential election.

The mission, scheduled from February 12 to 14, is led by Sidie Mohamed Tunis, the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, along with other prominent members of the assembly.

According to a statement released by the parliamentary office of ECOWAS, the delegation’s primary objective is to engage with Senegalese authorities, political figures, and representatives from civil society. The mission aims to facilitate discussions and explore avenues for resolving the political impasse gripping the nation.

Senegal, known for its stability in the region, has faced significant challenges in recent times, particularly surrounding the postponement of its presidential election. The delay has sparked widespread concern both domestically and internationally, prompting ECOWAS to intervene diplomatically.

As a pivotal player in the region, ECOWAS seeks to foster dialogue and cooperation among its member states to address political crises effectively.
