Deputy Majority leader and Member of Parliament for Efutu, has officially stepped into the role of Majority Leader after the resignation of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The transition also brings Patricia Appiagyei, the MP for Asokwa, to the forefront as his deputy.

The reshuffle was confirmed at a significant meeting at the presidency in Accra on Wednesday, where Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Ghana’s longest-serving lawmaker, formally announced his decision to step down from his position.

Expressing his sentiments regarding the departure of Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Joseph Osei-Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Bekwai, conveyed his disappointment during a press briefing in Parliament on Thursday, February 22.

“I am personally disappointed that Kyei decided to stand down. He has been a fantastic leader, and he is an extremely hardworking person, and I would have wished that he stayed on to the end,” Joewise stated

Responding to speculations about whether Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was coerced into resigning, Osei-Owusu dismissed such claims, asserting that he lacked any evidence to support such conclusions.

“I don’t have any such information; I have no basis for that conclusion,” he said.

In the new leadership lineup, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, retains his position as the Chief Whip, while Habib Iddrisu, MP for Tolon, assumes the role of Deputy Whip. Alex Tettey Djonobuah, representing Sefwi Akontombra, has been appointed as the Second Deputy Whip.
