African Games: Ghana's Abeiku Jackson wins silver in Men's 50m Butterfly

Ghanaian swimmer Abeiku Gyekye Jackson secured a silver medal at the 2023 African Games in Accra, marking him as the second Ghanaian athlete to achieve a podium finish in the tournament.

Jackson’s remarkable performance unfolded in the Men’s 50m Butterfly race hosted at the Aquatic Centre of the Borteyman Sports Complex.

The 24 -year old crossed the finish line with a time of 24.23 seconds, narrowly trailing behind Egyptian competitor Ali Khalafalla, who clinched the gold with an impressive time of 23.93 seconds.

South Africa’s Jarden Eaten secured the bronze medal, clocking in at 24.42 seconds.

In this closely contested event, Jackson, a two-time Olympian, raced from lane five alongside Khalafalla in lane four.

The two swimmers remained evenly matched until the midpoint of the race, where Khalafalla surged ahead, leaving Jackson in pursuit.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s fellow countryman Harry Stacey, starting from lane one, finished the race in fifth place, trailing behind Nigerian swimmer Collins Ebingha.
