The Ministry of Education has announced the official launch of the highly anticipated ‘One Student-One Laptop initiative for Senior High School students.

The initiative which shall be officially launched by the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, March 25 2024, will project computer literacy and technological know-how of young Ghanaian students nationwide.

The initiative was first announced in 2023 by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as part of government’s plan to enhance secondary school education in Ghana following the government’s implemented policy of free Senior high school education since 2017.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Information , the initiative was described as a part of government’s efforts to improve secondary school information in Ghana. “This initiative aligns with government’s efforts to enhance e-learning and digitalization,” and “supports government’s goal of leveraging technological advancements to prepare Ghanaian students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

The statement included another objective of the initiative to bolster SHS education by providing a Teaching and Learning Management System, Digital Learning Content, and educational devices to all Senior High and TVET schools nationwide.

Distribution of the preloaded laptops equipped with all educational materials, will commence on Monday March, 25 2024 after the official launch.
