President Nana Akufo-Addo has made changes to his government through a minor cabinet reshuffle.

In the reshuffle announced on Tuesday, April 2nd, Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Stephen Amoah has been reassigned to the role of Deputy Finance Minister.

Mr. Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, takes over the Deputy Finance Minister position from the late John Kumah, who passed away on March 7th. John Kumah had served as the MP for Ejisu in addition to his role as deputy finance minister.

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reassigned the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Hon. Stephen Amoah, as Deputy Minister for Finance,” said a press statement from Eugene Arhin, Communications Director at the Presidency.

To fill the vacancy left by Mr. Amoah’s reassignment, President Akufo-Addo has nominated Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, MP for Achiase, as the new Deputy Trade and Industry Minister-designate. However, this nomination requires parliamentary approval.

“President Akufo-Addo is hopeful that Parliament will, once again, on a bi-partisan basis, expedite the approval of his nominee, so he can join the government forthwith, and assist in the delivery of his mandate for his second term in office,” the statement added.

The cabinet changes come as the Akufo-Addo administration enters the final stretch of its second term in office.
