Police refute claims of denying medical care to Democracy Hub protesters in custody

The Ghana Police Service has expressed concern over reports of disturbances at several voter registration centers in the ongoing limited registration exercise.
Incidents have been reported in Cape Coast, Central Region; Kukuom, Ahafo Region; and Adugyama, Ashanti Region.

The police have made several arrests and are continuing to investigate. In a statement, the Director of Public Affairs, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, reminded the public that voter registration is a peaceful civic duty and should be carried out in a respectful and orderly manner.

BELOW IS THE RELEASE:

  1. The Ghana Police Service has noted with concern isolated incidents of violations of the Law in some Voter Registration Centres in the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise
  2. We condemn the unfortunate incidents that occurred in some registration centres including Cape Coast, Central Region; Kukuom, Ahafo Region; and Adugyama, Ashanti Region. Police has made a number of arrests as investigations continue.
  3. The Police would like to remind the public that the registration exercise is a civic responsibility that must be attended to in a civil manner
  4. It is in this regard that we would like to caution the public to exercise maximum restraint and act in accordance with the laws governing the registration
  5. Police will not tolerate any disregard of the law any person(s) who engage in such acts shall be dealt with accordingly
