Internet connectivity has been fully restored after weeks of disruptions, according to the National Communications Authority (NCA).

On March 14, the NCA issued a public alert due to multiple undersea cable disruptions affecting mobile and fixed data services across the country.

The damage occurred in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Portugal, resulting in international traffic issues and significantly degraded data services.

The NCA collaborated with four Submarine Cable Service Providers to oversee the repair process, engaging SAT-3, ACE, WACS, and MainOne in monitoring progress. Two vessels were involved in the repair efforts, with SAT-3’s vessel expected to complete its work by mid-April, while MainOne, WACS, and ACE jointly deployed a second vessel with completion dates ranging from April 17 to May 9.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced new measures to enhance the resilience and reliability of Ghana’s internet connectivity.

In a statement on May 22, 2024, the NCA expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support during the recent internet disruptions. To prevent future outages, the NCA has directed submarine cable operators to submit backup and redundancy plan and all Mobile Network Operators to maintain redundant submarine cable links within Ghana and establish connections with additional sub-regional providers

These directives aim to ensure seamless connectivity and robust business continuity, bolstering Ghana’s internet infrastructure.
