The former Minority Leader and the member of Parliament for Tamale South Alhaji Haruna Idrisu has called on the Speaker of Parliament to direct the committee on Subsidiary Legislation to report to plenary for members to make consequential recommendations on the Legislative Instruments dubbed the Ghana Standard Authority (Pricing of Cement) Regulations 2024 laid by the Trade minister before the 21 days expiration.

During the correction of Votes and Proceedings on the floor the Former Trade Minister under the Mahama administration indicated the LI laid is a major constitutional issue persuant to Article 11(7)

Haruna Idrisu lamented that the government has to focus on how to stabilise the cedi because Ghana is a democratic country and prices of items should be determined by market forces and not a Minister. The majority leader responding to the former Minority Leader, emphatically stated that the minister is not requesting to regulate prices of goods but to regulate the prices of cement only. Rt.Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin advised the Minister for Trade and Industry K. T. Hammond to withdraw the LI for further amendments.
