Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, is a distinguished Ghanaian medical doctor and politician. Born on May 23, 1968, in Ashanti New Town, Kumasi, he hails from Pakyi No. 2 in the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Prempeh’s educational journey began at KNUST Primary and continued at Prempeh College in Kumasi. He then pursued his undergraduate studies in Human Biology and Medicine at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), graduating in 1994. He furthered his education with a Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology from the Netherlands Institute of Health Sciences in 1998 and a certificate in Leadership and Government from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, he holds a postgraduate qualification in surgery from the UK (MRCS), obtained in 2002.

Dr. Prempeh is a member of the New Patriotic Party and has served as the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region since 2008. He has held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Education and currently, Minister of Energy.

Recently, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, selected Dr. Prempeh as his preferred running mate for the 2024 presidential election, subject to party approval.

On July 4, 2024, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was officially endorsed as the running mate of the New Patriotic Party, paving the way for his candidacy in the upcoming elections.
