The minority in Parliament has raised a quorum to block the laying of a mining lease agreement by the government of Ghana

During proceedings, the Member of Parliament for Tamale central, Muntala Mohammed drew Speaker’s attention that the House had only 23 members and does not constitute a quorum to conduct business and called for adjournment.

Meanwhile, the minister responsible for Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor was supposed to lay two mining lease agreement reports, which were captured in today’s “Order Paper”. The mining lease agreement between the government and the Ashanti Bauxite Company Limited for the mining of bauxite in the Nyinahini Block 2 Area in the Atwima Mponua District, the
and mining lease agreement between government and Barari DV Ghana Limited for the exploration of lithium at Ewoyaa in the Central region.

However, the deputy minority whip, Ahmed Ibrahim opposed the laying of reports since the House did not have numbers to do such business.

He indicated that, during the business committee meeting, the two reports were not discussed, so it was surprising to find the reports before the house.

The majority chief whip Frank Annoh Dompreh responding to concerns raised he stated that what the minority has done will set a bad precedent.
