Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North Constituency, Andy Appiah Kubi has expressed worry over the rejection of his proposal to include doctors in the road traffic regulations 2012 amendment.

According to him, if Doctors are caught up in traffic, they cannot attend to emergency situations and can lead to the death of patients who need immediate attention.

Addressing the media in parliament, Andy Appiah Kubi recounted how he argued this vehemently on the committee to include doctors because if patients in ambulances have that privilege, doctors should also enjoy the same.

“Unfortunately, the committee rejected my proposal because of the difficulty to differentiate doctors on call and doctors who may not be on call to attend to emergency situations”.

He made this proposal after parliament introduced a legislative instrument (L.I) to amend portions of the road traffic regulations 2012, which will allow MPs and Ministers of state privileges previously reserved for emergency and specialised vehicles.

This will allow fitting of sirens as warning appliances on specific classes of vehicles including those owned by justices of the Supreme Court, MPs and Minister’s of state.
