The Seventh Day Adventist Church has requested a change in the 2024 election date, as voting on Saturdays goes against their religious practices.

They are requesting that the Electoral Commission and other relevant authorities either change the election date or provide them with special voting arrangements.

However, political analyst Dr. Nana Takyi Asiedu has criticized this proposal, stressing that Ghana’s governance is based on the constitution, not religious beliefs.

The constitution mandates that elections be held on December 7th every four years, and Dr. Asiedu believes it is crucial for the Electoral Commission to follow this schedule to maintain transparency.

He cautioned that granting this request could lead other religious groups, such as Muslims and Sunday worshippers, to make similar demands, which could disrupt the democratic process and affect the overall integrity of elections.
