The President of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), Prince Obeng-Himang, has affirmed that the association continues to prioritize students’ interests, despite an ongoing strike that began in June.

In an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Happy Kasiebor News Bulletin, Mr. Obeng-Himang emphasized the long-standing dedication and sacrifice demonstrated by lecturers. “Whoever says we do not care about the students is not being honest,” he asserted.

He elaborated that the challenging conditions faced by CETAG have not deterred them from imparting knowledge and supporting students through their academic journeys. “Many of these students are our children, nephews, and nieces; we raised and trained these children with dedication and a collective sacrifice to look beyond our condition and still teach them. Most of them are near completion,” Mr. Obeng stated.

Mr. Obeng-Himang also highlighted that the government must consider the negative impact this strike may have on the student body and respond accordingly to CETAG’s demands.

As of June 14, teachers in the various colleges of education decided to withdraw their services, demanding better working conditions and remuneration packages.
