Residents of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region have taken to the streets to protest against the Speaker of Parliament, Kingsford Alban Bagbin, following his decision to order their Member of Parliament, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, out of the parliamentary chamber on July 22.

The incident occurred during a session where the Speaker was presenting a message from President Nana Addo, requesting parliamentary approval for the appointment of two Supreme Court justices, Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah and Justice Richard Frimpong Oppong.

Dr. Afriyie’s comments during the proceedings apparently displeased the Speaker, who ordered the marshal to take him out of the chamber. In response, the people of Sefwi Wiawso staged a demonstration on July 23, condemning the Speaker’s actions as disrespectful to their representative and their community.

They accused the Speaker of exhibiting arrogance and demanded a public apology to the people of Sefwi Wiawso for his actions. The protesters are seeking a show of contrition from the Speaker for what they perceive as a slight against their MP and their constituency.
