Members of the minority caucus on the appointment committee of Parliament had a heated argument with the vice-chairman of the committee during the vetting of supreme court justices nominees.

The members headed by minority Leader Dr. Ato Forson who doubles as the ranking member of the committee cautioned the vice chairman of the committee to resist the unscrupulous way of vetting the two nominees. According to the minority leader, the Vice Chairperson of the committee. Patricia Appiagei unilaterally wrote a letter to the nominees inviting them to vetting without the knowledge of the committee.

He added that the decision taken by the Deputy Majority Leader has left the committee especially the minority in a State of disappointment. He indicated that the date set for the vetting was not communicated to members of the committee until midnight last Monday. He elaborated that after the committee met and agreed on the date for the vetting, the Chairperson again changed the date.

He stated that the committee needed time to study the nominees and also review their CV’s Dr. Forson explained that the committee needed 14 days after advertising the nominees to invite memoranda but the chairperson only advertised for 4days. He added that, the minority is not against any of the nominees but rather want due diligence.
