A total of 34 people in the Ayawaso West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have been issued legal summonses for refusing to participate in the Ga Homowo clean-up campaign and keep their surroundings clean.

Under the leadership of the Ga Traditional Council, spearheaded by Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, this effort is geared towards preparing for the upcoming Homowo festival this year.

To ensure the clean-up’s success, all shops, banks, food joints, and other establishments were required to close on Friday, August 2, 2024.

Speaking to the media, Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso West, Sandra Ahenkorah, warned that those who do not comply with environmental regulations, especially during important events like Homowo, will face penalties.

She stated that they have issued summonses to 34 individuals and the goal is to ensure all businesses are closed, as required by law.

“So since yesterday, we have summoned 34 people. In fact, we want all shops and businesses closed. That is the law. That is what we were asked to tell them. So we told them. So it will not be fair for someone to close the shop”, she said.

She added that whiles most complied and participated in the clean-up, those who did not will still face court action.
This she said is a serious matter, and authorities are committed to enforcing these regulations.
