The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn has disputed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) assertion that they have created 21 million jobs, characterizing it as a blatant falsehood and a way to deceive Ghanaians into voting for them. This response comes after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, made the claim during the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18.

In an interview with an Accra based radio station monitored by Happyghana.com, Gunn argued that the NPP’s claim is not only exaggerated but also defies logic, given Ghana’s total population of approximately 31 million. “If the government had indeed created 21 million jobs, it would leave only 10 million people without employment, which is inconsistent with the reality of widespread unemployment in the country. If such jobs existed, many citizens, including those who completed training under the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) program wouldn’t have been unemployed”, he said.

Gunn emphasized that the NPP’s claim is a deliberate attempt to mislead voters and distract from their failure to address the country’s economic challenges. He challenged the government to provide evidence of these supposed jobs and explain why, despite their claims, many Ghanaians continue to struggle with unemployment. He concluded that the NPP’s assertion is a fabrication aimed at winning votes, rather than a genuine reflection of their achievements.
