President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has allocated 1.7 billion dollars to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiative to ensure WASH services annually.

The money allocated will ensure Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services reach rural areas, Schools and healthcare facilities as part of reaching sustainable development goal by 2030.

In order to reach sustainable development goal by 2030, the President signed a historic Presidential Compact on Water and Sanitation and Hygiene as part of government’s commitment to improving public health and climate resilience.

During the signing ceremony on August 28 2024, the President said without the WASH services, sustainable development goal will not be achieved because it is a step that the government is embarking on to build fundamental truth to ensure that every citizen, regardless of their location benefits from this important WASH services.

Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Lydia Seyram AlHassan added that the signing of the Compact by the President indicates how the country is taking the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services seriously.

“After United Nations (UN) announced the Compact at the UN 2023 Conference, Ghana brought it to fruition”.

The Country’s climate strategy will now combine building climate resilient water and Sanitation services to ensure that Ghana is ready to address the problems posed by increasing droughts and floods, she noted.
