The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to broadcast a pivotal meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. today.

In a statement shared on Facebook on Friday, September 6, 2024, the party’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah, criticized the EC’s decision, arguing that transparency is crucial for ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections.

He emphasized that a live coverage of the meeting would allow the public to scrutinize the processes and the electoral register, which has been a subject of contention. “This deliberate refusal flies in the face of Transparency: Transparency is cardinal to the attainment of Free, Fair and Peaceful elections,” he wrote.

The NDC believes that the EC’s actions raise concerns, particularly as they claim that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains silent on the issue. The NDC alleges that the NPP stands to benefit from what they describe as manipulation of the electoral process. Additionally, Dr. Omane-Boamah pointed out that certain personalities and institutions that have previously been vocal on electoral matters have also remained silent, raising further suspicions.

He noted that the NDC will not tolerate what they perceive as an attempt to rig the upcoming 2024 elections and promised to provide updates on the meeting, even without the EC’s approval for live coverage.

Why Should Electoral Commission of Ghana be Afraid of Live Coverage of Today’s Meeting with the NDC @ 2pm?

The Electoral Commission has refused to grant NDC’s request for live broadcast of our meeting with them today @ 2pm.

We disagree with the EC and I have communicated same to them.

This deliberate refusal flies in the face of Transparency: Transparency is cardinal to the attainment of Free, Fair and Peaceful elections.

The EC can not escape public scrutiny and forensic audit of the voters register!

Meanwhile, we’ve all observed the LOUD SILENCE of the ruling NPP notwithstanding all these anomalies.

It cannot be lost on us that the NPP stands to benefit illegally from the overt and covert manipulation of the register and the electoral process.

Additionally, the palpable purchased silence from other previously loud-mouthed personalities and institutions that are supposed to call the EC to order is telling!

We are serving notice that the NDC will not tolerate the unfolding day light advance robbery/rigging of Election 2024 to materialise.

This being the case, at today’s meeting at the Corporate office of the EC near the National Cathedral, we shall also serve as the broadcast outlets in the meeting and after the meeting.

We shall not relent!

We shall not falter!!

We shall not rest!!!
