The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stressed that this year’s election presents a crucial choice for Ghanaians to vote for progress or regression. He argued that a vote for him and the NPP is a vote for development and economic growth, citing the party’s achievements since taking office in 2016.

Addressing party supporters on Monday September 9 at the party’s headquarters, Accra after filling his nomination at the Electoral Commission’s(EC) office. Bawumia highlighted that the NPP government has introduced a reliable power supply, implemented Free SHS, restored teacher and nursing trainee allowances, and initiated the ID1F program, among other developmental initiatives.

In contrast, he criticized his opponent, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for his past record, which was marked by poor leadership and a lack of vision. Dr. Bawumia noted that during Mahama’s tenure, Ghanaians suffered through four years of electricity crises (Dumsor), cancellation of teacher and nursing trainee allowances, and a lack of basic resources like chalks in schools.

He criticized the NDC administration for lacking innovative ideas, aside from their vague concept of a “24-hour economy” which they have failed to elucidate. He sarcastically questioned the relevance of a “24-hour nightclub initiative” to economic development, implying that such a plan would not contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth. His rhetorical question highlighted the NDC’s lack of clear economic vision and their focus on frivolous initiatives rather than substantive policies to drive progress.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that Mr. Mahama’s return to power would spell disaster for Ghana, and urged party followers and Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP in the December elections to ensure a progressive economy and continued development. He warned that a vote for Mahama would be a vote for retardation, while a vote for the NPP would be a vote for progress.
