EC dismisses NDC's demand for forensic audit of the voter register

The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) call for a forensic audit of the voter register, labeling it as misguided and unnecessary. At a press briefing on Thursday, Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey stressed that such an audit would not enhance the EC’s existing processes for refining the provisional voters register. He pointed out that the commission would still be responsible for rectifying any issues with the register, even if an audit were conducted, making the exercise redundant.

The Electoral Commission (EC) believes that a forensic audit would be futile, as it would not contribute any significant value to the established, proven, and documented process for cleaning and enhancing the provisional voters register. The EC posed a critical question: even if a forensic audit were conducted, who would ultimately be responsible for addressing and rectifying the discrepancies in the register? This highlights the commission’s skepticism about the practical benefits of such an audit.

The Electoral Commission (EC) responded that it is the commission itself that will rectify any discrepancies in the register, and that is precisely what they are currently doing. Therefore, the EC maintains that the demand for a forensic audit is unwarranted and misguided, as it would not provide any additional benefits or solutions that the commission is not already addressing through its established processes.
