The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has endorsed the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah as its 2024 Parliamentary candidate for the Fomena constituency. Mr Asiamah in the lead-up to the 2020 general elections suffered what many have termed humiliation by the NPP. After he won the seat as an independent candidate, Mr Aisamah was faced with decision to align with the NPP in parliament to salvage a politically dire situation or continue on his independent agenda.

According to him, his loyalty to the NPP came to bare, earning him, the position of second deputy speaker in parliament. As a gesture of appreciation or better still, to avoid the 2020 mistake, the party unanimously endorsed him at its National Executive Council meeting. Announcing NEC’s decision to the leadership of the Constituency on Thursday September 12, 2024, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi said the party is overwhelmed by the kind of support it has enjoyed from the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who is currently the independent Member of Parliament for Fomena.

Chairman Wontumi said the party is highly confident that the Fomena seat will return to the NPP with him as its candidate. He said such show of love, support and dedication from Asiamah should not go unnoticed, expressing the party’s gratitude to him for saving its image in Parliament. Having him return to his roots, Chairman Wontumi said will not be business as usual, but a signal of victory for the constituency and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. The 2nd Deputy Speaker, in his response, said he has missed everything about the party that was forever dear to his heart. Asiamah pledged his readiness to lead the party into a historic landslide victory for Dr Bawumia and himself in the Fomena constituency. He urged all to put behind them, any issue, and work together for the greater good of the party.
