The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of hypocrisy regarding the voters’ register. In a press conference on September 19 at the party’s headquarters ,Accra, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua pointed out that ahead of the 2016 elections, the NPP raised concern about the register, but former President John Dramani Mahama stated that the Electoral Commission (EC) is independent and should be allowed to do its job.

The NDC is demanding an independent forensic audit of the provisional register. Kodua questioned what has changed since 2015, referencing a report by the V.C.R.A.C. Crabble-led panel, which emphasized the need for vigilance and maturity in ensuring the register’s credibility.

“We can equally not forget the words of former President Mahama, who in October 2015, stated that the Electoral Commission is an independent body mandated by law to ‘decide what to do’’. So Mr. Mahama, why are you and the NDC not allowing the E.C. to decide what to do but are embarking on demonstrations?”, he asked

He challenged the NDC to provide evidence of alleged irregularities instead of demonstrating. The NPP views the NDC’s agitation as needless, deceptive, and mischievous, aimed at creating tensions knowing they’ll lose the 2024 elections. Kodua stressed that if the NDC genuinely wants to help the EC, they should provide concrete evidence.
