Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah has stated that the party is striving for free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections this year, emphasizing the need for a forensic audit of not only the voters register but also the EC’s IT system.

According to him, this is essential because he, like others, want their votes protected.

Speaking at a meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Labour Unions, Religious Leaders, Media Owners, and others in Accra on Monday, September 23, 2024, Dr. Boamah noted that this audit aims to uncover the root causes whether one or multiple of the avoidable and sometimes deliberate errors they have observed.

He said the party is focusing on two related areas, correcting the errors in the voters register and closing the vulnerabilities in the system.

He stressed that simply correcting errors would not be enough, as those responsible for deliberate mistakes could restore them overnight if the gaps in both the human and IT systems are not fixed.

Dr. Boamah noted that while some may argue that the affected figures are not as high as two or three million, they should be reminded that in Ghana’s elections, a margin of 50% plus one is what determines the outcome.

He further emphasized that when the NDC met with the Electoral Commission (EC) on September 6, 2024, they pointed out that 243,540 previous transfer entries had been added to the 2024 transfers, with some of them being repeated names, resulting in double errors.
