Declaring State of emergency is not an effective solution to galamsey - Dr. Eric Oduro Hammond

The New Force Movement Parliamentary Candidate in the Prestea Huni-Valley constituency of the Western Region, Dr. Eric Oduro Hammond has expressed concern about the numerous calls for a state of emergency to be declared over illegal mining in the country. He said it is not the best solution to the menace.

According to him, there are various ways to mine, adding that, some of the ways do not pollute water bodies.

He said ” the Chinese who are destroying our forest reserves and the water bodies are all known and permitted by the Government, while we stand aside and blame the entire Galamsey work.”

He believes that proper measures can be put in place by State authorities, such as afforestation and reclaiming of lands after mining activities.
