The Divisional Chairman of the National Identification Authority (NIA) under the Public Services Workers’ Union of TUC, Francis Bangfudeme Nyuzaghl, has reiterated the Union’s declaration of indefinite strike which affects all activities of the authority.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority is supposed to begin the free registration of the Ghana Card for all Ghanaians aged 6 to 14, today Monday October 7th, 2024, but the staff union in press release has declared an indefinite strike beginning Monday October 7th, 2024.

Speaking to Happy Kasiɛbɔ, he indicated that, all 16 Regional Offices have been shut down hence they will not attend to any clients, ‘’all our District and Regional offices are shut down, nobody is at work to attend to any clients, by extension these are the same people that ought to go to the field to execute this particular exercise ’’.

He explained that, the strike affects all activities and operations of the authority.
‘’If we are striking by extension, we are not available for normal office work and any other project activities’’ he added.

When quizzed on whether or not, the strike affects the registration of all children aged 6 to 14, he said, ‘’I do not want to speak to that, but what I can speak to is that we, as members of staff are not available for any work today’’.
